Why Elmore Leonard Never Would Have Made It As A Copywriter

Mr. Leonard was is one of our country’s most prolific novelists.  (Thanks to all who caught my mistake.)

He wrote such wonders as Get Shorty, Glitz and Rum Punch.

He also wrote 10 Rules of Good Writing.

Number ten is why Mr Leonard never would have made it as a successful copywriter.

      10.  Try to leave out the part that readers tend to skip.

In advertising, that’s usually the part about the product.

You see the dilemma.

For Mr Leonard’s nine other rules, go here.

  1. He still is the best.

  2. WAS? Uhm, Elmore's still with us, and still writing. The past tense is very inappropriate.

  3. Why are you writing about him in the past tense? He's still writing and one of the best.
